Vakbeschrijving This course introduces programming techniques that are used in design automation software for integrated circuits. Its primary purpose is to provide the (future) user with an insight into what these tools can and cannot do. A secondary goal is to stimulate the interested student to specialize further in the field. The topics covered include: the VLSI design trajectory, layout compaction, simulation, placement and routing, high-level synthesis, floorplanning, and logic synthesis. In support of these topics attention is given to graph theory, algorithmic complexity and general purpose methods for combinatorial optimization. The examination is based on a practical project involving the implementation of an algorithm from the field with an emphasis on programming techniques.
Inhoud The VLSI design trajectory, layout compaction, simulation, placement and routing, high-level synthesis, floorplanning, cell compilation, graph theory, algorithmic complexity, general-purpose methods for combinatorial optimization.
